Book Review Call the midwife

Bonjour!

As promised here is this weeks book review, 'Call the midwife' by Jennifer Worth

Last week I read A thousand splendid suns and loved it.
I'm a huge fan of books and T.V shows/movies from the 1930's, 1940's and 1950's so this book was perfect for me. If you watch the T.V show on BBC1 then you'll love this book. Call the midwife (and the T.V show) is written and about Jennifer Worth during her time working as a midwife in the East End of London in the 50's. Each chapter relates to each episode aired from the show, and tells the story of every person she treat, worked with and became friends with.

Jenny Lee (Jennifer) started off as a trained nurse and became a midwife working in the East End of London at Nonnatus House - a convent. She had many challenges to conquer difficult births, first love and friendship, not to mention coming to terms with working in a convent.
This book doesn't have just one set storyline as it's Jennifer's memoires, each chapter is a small story and each story gives a little history lesson of what London was really like back then.

Not the best book review I know, but it's difficult to review as a story as it's has small stories inside one book and it would take forever. And of course it would spoil it for you all.
If you like anything from the 50's then give this a go, this is one I'd read again and again.

Do you have any recommendations of books from the 30's - the 50's? Or any recommendations in general?

Mwah X
